After witnessing countless friends and family members struggle to find reliable, safe childcare providers, Dilia Coppedge, founder of The Nanny Loft, realized that she could provide an invaluable service that would effectively address this need.
She launched The Nanny Loft, a nanny-referral agency, in 2016 in order to connect families with trusted, high-quality childcare options.
When Dilia was in college, she was a nanny to two different families, which created experiences that shaped her understanding of the powerful impact these caregivers can have on their families, as well as the challenges both families and nannies face in establishing strong working relationships with one another.
While earning her degree, Dilia was very active:
- in her community
- volunteering at a church-sponsored camp for abandoned, abused and neglected children
This further ignited her passion for working with children, drawing her to a career aimed at helping this underserved population. She had been studying K-12 education at school, but she changed her course of study after her experience at the camp, and received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Social Services in 2006.
Dilia became a social worker for the New Jersey Division of Child Protection & Permanency (DCP&P) in 2007, where she continues to work today.
As a resource family support worker, one of Dilia’s primary responsibilities was to evaluate potential foster parents. Through a process that included extremely detailed assessments, multiple home visits, and conversations with applicants’ families, friends, coworkers, and doctors, Dilia thoroughly appraised each family’s ability to safely, appropriately, and compassionately care for the state’s most vulnerable children. With nearly ten years of experience working for DCP&P, Dilia has developed a keen, intuitive ability to assess potential caregivers from every angle.
